Factions...thoughts?
So after a couple of days playing, what is everyones opinion? Sorry if there has already been a thread like this :-/
Personally, Factions has not captivated me the way the prophecies did...maybe It's just the fact that it is not fully released, and what we could do was limited. Or maybe I just didn't like feeling awkward while playing factions, also the asian theme is kind of wierd to me...that said, I will probably get factions anyways to check out the full version...anyone else feel the same?

I thought it was pretty good I just didn't like starting out at lvl 20 . I would rather start at 1 and work my way up but other than that I liked it and yes the Asian theme IS a little weird but o well.

I agree with the level 20, but I believe the reason was so we could delete the char and remake another profession without losing something we'd worked for.
I personally liked the preview event, except for some quest rewards that was totally screwed up but I believe they will work on that before release.

Generally, I enjoyed it. Played in total for about 20 hours this weekend, most of it on Alliance Battles and loading screens
Had several really awesome battles, and many that were simple leave-fests. Today was by far the best day, either I was getting good groups or people began to learn. I also liked the sense of community present at such events, with everyone being quite clueless but enthusiastic
As for the PvE side, I utterly loathed Ferndale because it felt like grinding with little fun moments. I was quite imkpressed with Melandru's hope and that area south of the Shrine. I love the Mantis mobs on swampy lowlands, I feel this is what Maguuma should have been. Speaking of which, no Devourers anywhere!
Overall, an enjoyable experience. Maybe not to the scale of the WPE (October/November 2004), which got me hooked at Guild Wars, but with some major improvements to the faction war, I think this has potential to be a great game.

I found the preview to be a huge let down. Nothing was even very challenging...yes I know its just the lil beta look they give you but it wasnt too exciting. Armors dont look very good, new weapons that droped were not appealing to me at all. I mean a sickle that dropped looked like a farmers weapon. Yeah what else to make a big warrior look hardcore than this lil half circle blade that is supposed to be an axe. Hopefully they put more thought in the next few weeks cause at this point its still a let down.

Some development teams use the term beta informally to denote build of the software that is stable enough to be useful for internal demonstrations and previews to select customers, but not yet ready for release. Some developers refer to this stage as a preview, as a technical preview (TP) or as an early access. Often this stage begins when the developers announce a feature freeze on the product, indicating that no more features will be added to this version of the product and only software issues, or bugs, will be removed.

Shortly speaking, don't expect anything major. But then again, we didn't have access to the entire thing, so in a way, we still don't know what to expect.

It's definatly intersting... but I would have prefered to start in presearing or something similar to it. For what the event was/is, it's probably a good thing. It definatly helped with trying to pick a side.
It was sort of hard to get this skill set (plus more skills) which I had no idea how to play. So.. didn't spent too much time in Cantha and definatly looking forward to the release so I can play a char from level 1 to 20 and learn how to use their skills more effectively.

My thoughts:
- 12 vs 12 is fun, I'm loving it. However, the rage quiters ruin it, discuss here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=142996
- Lots of new henchies, weird looking henchies, I like them
- The new terrain looks cool, I like it
- Lots of new collector items, finally, strength shield! AWESOME!
- Asian theme weird? Not to me.
- Yes, I will buy factions. No doubt.

Well i've been playing the "beta test" if it can be called that way, yesterday mostly. I liked the asian setting, with the temples and all. The 12 vs 12 alliance pvp was a good idea too, the maps are big...a bit to big sometimes.
Tho i know its only a beta test, i didn't many bugs, except one where you had to fight 9 waves or Kurzicks on a beach...the last one took a whole 10 if not 15 mins to arrive.
As for the two new class, i like them but, it would have been great to add another one, samurai...but anyway...maybe in due time we might.
For the Lv 20 start up...it had its high and low, true it would have been fun to start lv 1, but the time we'd have taken to reach Lv 20 would be high...even tho i know there r people out there who were glued to they're computer all week-end long.
Well that much about it

I wasn't expecting much from the preview event and still stick by that feeling now. It seems that anet won't budge to include small scale gvg.
The Alliance Battle, however, is definitly a step in the right direction. There are no time-consuming preparations, and finding if such and such is on. Just group up with 3 guildies and play.
I still think GW is the best 'mmo' around with so much potential to be better, but there isn't a whole lot to do when pve isn't on your list. Besides the 2 new classes, I'm basically buying it for Alliance battles which can get old in less than a month.
